• ÁùºÏ²Ê¿â±¦µä Professional Mentor Program

  Charges

  Primary responsibilities include providing goal-focused professional guidance to participants of the ÁùºÏ²Ê¿â±¦µä Student to Leadership Development Program. Professional mentors should have the willingness and ability to share knowledge, skills and expertise in the medical imaging and radiation therapy profession. This is an online program.

  Duties

  ÁùºÏ²Ê¿â±¦µä staff select formal mentors, who serve a term of one year. A formal mentor’s primary roles include showing interest in his or her mentee’s professional development, assisting with goal setting and providing constructive feedback using the online mentoring platform and curriculum as a guide if needed.

  Mentors must:

  • Be willing to accept three mentee match requests.
  • Communicate with mentee(s) monthly.
  • Schedule communications with mentee(s); mentors may create their own content or use already developed materials.
  • Complete survey regarding participation in the program.

  Time commitment

  Professional Mentors should expect to spend one to four hours per month engaging with mentee(s) using the online platform. The program begins Dec. 1, 2023.

  Travel commitment

  No travel is required to serve as a professional mentor.

  Skills

  Professional mentors must have in-depth knowledge and real-life work experience in medical imaging or radiation therapy to provide guidance and support to the mentees. Mentors must be able to build and maintain collaborative, goal-focused relationships.

  Criteria

  • Professional Mentors shall be an ÁùºÏ²Ê¿â±¦µä member for three years preceding application.
  • The appointee shall be a current member of an ÁùºÏ²Ê¿â±¦µä affiliate.

• Radiation Oncology Safety Stakeholder’s Inititative

  Charges

  Radiation Oncology-Safety Stakeholders Initiative (RO-SSI) Mission Statement: To recommend and facilitate safety improvements in radiotherapy through a common, independent, and impartial vision broadly based on diversity of experience and knowledge among radiation oncology professionals.

  Operating Principles: RO-SSI is an organic Environment to explore and brainstorm ideas, issues, and solutions. Everyone is encouraged to raise issues. Allowing for radiation oncology professionals to tackle problems that will benefit from multidisciplinary collaborative perspective.

  Duties

  Volunteer members of the Radiation Oncology-Safety Stakeholder’s Initiative (RO-SSI) research, review, troubleshoot and correct issues related to specific radiation therapy topics. RO-SSI is a collaborative effort with members of the Medical Imaging & Technology Alliance, American Society for Radiation Oncology, American Association of Physicists in Medicine, ÁùºÏ²Ê¿â±¦µä and others in the radiation therapy industry. The initiative’s objective is to continuously improve patient safety and accuracy across the industry. Prospective volunteers must be ÁùºÏ²Ê¿â±¦µä members. ÁùºÏ²Ê¿â±¦µä staff will review and select qualified volunteers.

  Time Commitment

  Volunteers appointed will serve a two-year term. The minimal time commitment for members is to attend three conference calls a year, each call is usually one-hour long. If participating in a Work Group created to address a specific issue, then the time commitment may vary; most Work Groups (WG) communicate and work through email and virtual meetings.

  Criteria

  The following criteria are used to evaluate volunteers:

  1. Completion of the ÁùºÏ²Ê¿â±¦µä volunteer form.
  2. Strong communication skills.
  3. Strong interpersonal skills.
  4. Knowledge of the mission, philosophies and goals of the ÁùºÏ²Ê¿â±¦µä.
  5. A full understanding the time commitment of the position, including participation in discussions and reviewing matters being addressed by ROSSI.
  6. Knowledge of current practice and technology in radiation therapy.
  7. Current registration by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists in radiation therapy or the Medical Dosimetrist Certification Board in medical dosimetry.
  8. Minimum of an associate degree.
